Question 1:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night,

it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see

three people waiting for a bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

An old friend who once saved your life.

The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that

there could only be one passenger in your car?

I actually ever heard about this in a movie, and still remember it :D A clever answer ^^

This is a moral/ethical dilem ma that was once ac tually used as part of a

job application.

* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus

you should save her first;

* or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and

this would be the perfect chance to! pay him back.

* However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming

up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

He simply answered:

"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to

the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner

of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought

limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

Question 2:

What will you do if I run away with your sister?"

The candidate who was selected answered " I will not get a better match

for my sister than you sir"

Question 3:

Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) - What is one morning you woke

up & found that you were pregnant.

Girl - I will be very excited and take an off, to celebrate with my husband.

Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed

it well. Why I should think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked

Question 4:

Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived

kept before the candidate, then he asked what is before you?

Candidate: Instantly replied "Tea"

He got selected.

You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee

was kept before.

(Answer: The question was "What is before you (U - alphabet) Reply was

"TEA" ( T - alphabet)

Alphabet "T" was before Alphabet "U"

Question 5:

Where Lord Rama would have celebrated his "First Diwali"?

People will start thinking of Ayodya, Mitila [Janaki's place], Lanka

etc...

But the logic is, Diwali was a celebrated as a mark of Lord Krishna

Killing N arakasura. In Dusavata ar, Krishnavatha ar comes after

Raa mavatha ar.

So, Lord Rama would not have celebrated the Diwali At all!

Question 6:

The interviewer asked to the candidate "This is your last question of the

interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table

where u have kept your files."

Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table

and told that this was the central point at the table.

Interviewer asked how did u get to know that this being the central point

of this table, then he answers quickly that

"sir u r not likely to ask any more question, as it was the last question

that u promised to ask....."

And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness. .......

This is What Interviewer expects from the Interviewee. ...

Can't Help

You might have heard the idiom "Can't help" a lot, but have not completely understand the meaning of this idiom.

"Help" itself means to refrain from, or to avoid.
"Can't help" means unable to refrain from, unable to resist, or can't prevent oneself from.

Example:
- I can't help thinking about her.
Means I can't refrain myself from thinking about her.

Another usage of can't help is in the idiom "can't help but", which means the same as "can't help".

Example:
- She is so pretty that I can't help but admire her.
Means she is so pretty that I can't resist admiring her.

However, the use of "can't help but" in the example above has been condemned by some as the ungrammatical version of "can't help". Nevertheless, it is not a false usage of idiom to use "can't help but", it is just that "can't help" is more common nowadays.

The example above has the same meaning as:
- She is so pretty that I can't help admiring her.

Cannot vs can not

I undeliberately found out that "cannot" is different from "can not", though I thought they were the same. There's a slight difference between "cannot" and "can not".

The difference is that, "cannot" is used to show that it's impossible to do the thing specified in the sentence. While, "can not" means, the thing specified is still possible.
e.g.
I cannot bring the moon down for you. (It is indeed impossible)
I can not attend the meeting tomorrow. (There's still a possibility it can be done)

Listening section - TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language)

This is my first post, it will be about English, to be more specific, Listening section in TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language), as far as I can recall ^^

There are some things that you should know about listening section in TOEFL. If you know these tips, you will probably get a high score in listening section of TOEFL, or at least, you won't get a score too low :D

They're actually quite simple. Here they are:
1. Expressions of agreement
You should know some expressions used to show agreement, which will often show up in listening section of TOEFL, i.e. I'll say; you can say that again
Both "I'll say" and "you can say that again" are used to expressed an agreement
e.g.
A: The movie we watched last night was awesome
B: You can say that again
Then the question will be more or less like: "How does speaker B feel about the movie?"
The answer should be "Speaker B thinks that the movie they saw last night was awesome."
In this conversation, speaker B agrees with speaker A that the movie they saw last night was awesome.

2. Usage of words with similar pronunciation
Listening section of TOEFL uses the possibility of people not listening to the conversation carefully that the answers provided are the ones which have similar pronunciation. So, make sure that you listen to the conversation carefully and concentrate in it ^^

3. Listen thoroughly
Do not pay too much attention to the detail of the words used in the conversation. Instead, listen to it thoroughly and stay focused to the topic being discussed, and you'll figure out what's actually being discussed. However, when there are weekdays, days, times, or chronologies in the conversation, make sure you do notice and remember them. They may appear to be the questions.

4. Think about the situation of the conversation
Think about the situation, about when and where the conversation takes place, the relationship of the speakers, what they talk about, etc. while listening to the conversation.

5. Expression of "So you do...."
The expression "So you do...." is used to show that someone formerly has his own thought about something, but then find out that the fact is different. It's more to exclamatory sentence than positive sentence. You'll find out that there's an emphasis on the word do.
e.g.
A: The party was great.
B: So you did went to the party.
Then the question will be more or less like: "What did speaker B think about speaker A?"
The answer should be "Speaker B thought that speaker A didn't come to the party."
You'll notice that there's an emphasis on the word did, it's to show that speaker B formerly has his own thought about it, but then find out that the fact is different.

6. Do not cheat!
Do not cheat or take a peek on other's work!
